Temporal variability sampling scheme

 

For systems with random temporal variations in the concentration, it is impossible to use the measured data to predict future concentrations (indicated by '?' in the figure).

In contrast, for systems with systematic temporal variations in the concentration, it is possible to use the measured data to predict future concentrations (as indicated by the dashed lines in the Figures).
