Transport mechanisms

There are three main transport mechanisms for molecules in the environment, but also in technical systems.

Molecular diffusion due to Brownian motion of molecules at temperatures above absolute zero:
-within a medium
-across phase boundaries

Advection (=convection): transport with a medium like air, water or suspended matter

Dispersion (turbulent diffusion): only occurs in connection with advection
