FAQ

1) What does the cavity model say?

Answer:

The free energy for partitioning into a bulk phase depends on the energy that is needed to create a cavity and the energy that is gained from interactions between the solute and its new neighbours after the solute has been transferred into this cavity. For partitioning between two condensed phases these energies have to be accounted for in both phases.
